Mercedes-Benz results reinforce EV future

Mercedes-Benz announced Q3 2022 results with battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales up 115% year-on-year. Deliveries of hybrid and battery EV models reached nearly 76 thousand in Q3, equivalent to a 15% share of global deliveries.

In its transformation towards a fully electric future, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars increased BEV sales in Q3 by 28% compared with Q2 2022. BEV sales were lifted by the EQB, EQE and EQS models, to be followed by the recently launched EQS SUV. This ensures the Mercedes can offer a fully electric vehicle in in every luxury vehicle segment that the company serves, with eight all-electric models currently surpassing all direct competitors. Over the past 12 months, the company has also increased the number of charging points within its Mercedes me Charge service, totaling 850,000 wordwide.

The EQA is Mercedes-Benz's top selling BEV reaching nearly 15 thousand unit sales in Q3. In 2022-to-date, one in ten vehicles sold by Mercedes was a BEV. Production of the new EQS SUV began in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, USA, with the new EQS SUV and EQB both launched in Q3 2022. Market launch of the EQE will follow in Q4 2022, with EV sales beginning to pick up traction in the US. In the first nine months of 2022, Mercedes-Benz Vans increased sales of eVans by one third compared to 2021, with roughly a third of all customer van sales from the eVans range.

Mercedes' corporate goal is to be net zero by 2039 and to offer fully electric versions of all of its models by 2025. The luxury and fully electric automotive segments are at a critical inflection point in North America and Europe and Mercedes-Benz is well postioned to evolve from the initial inventor of the internal combustion automobile (some 130 years ago) to a leading figure in its its electrification today and in the future.
