TANFAC completes expansion of hydrofluoric acid plant

TANFAC Industries (TANFAC) has announced the commissioning of their newly expanded hydrofluoric acid (HF) plant in Cuddalore, India.

The company has successfully doubled the capacity of its HF plant from 14.8ktpy to 29.7ktpy, just 20 months after announcing the expansion in February 2023. This news comes after TANFAC announced a framework agreement with a leading Japanese speciality chemical company in June 2024 to supply refrigerant gas starting in the second half of 2025–26.

The newly expanded facility will allow TANFAC to fulfil the obligation of its partnership with the Japanese speciality company, strategically positioning itself in the refrigerant gas market. Project Blue estimates a 2.1% overall CAGR in refrigerant gas demand between 2023 and 2034, with increased supply expected to meet this demand over the next decade.

The HF market is expected to grow rapidly due to key chemical applications crucial to the energy transition. TANFAC’s strategic decision to integrate its downstream processes is particularly wise in this context. By streamlining its operations, TANFAC can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance supply chain resilience. This integration allows the company to effectively monitor the production and distribution of HF and its derivatives, ensuring a consistent supply to meet growing demand.
