As discussions about a potential critical minerals deal between Ukraine and the USA continue to attract coverage, Project Blue experts have provided additional detail on the country's current critical materials landscape.
A lot of recent coverage has focused on Ukraine's reserves of commodities such as lithium and rare earths; materials essential to the energy transition.
However, while Ukraine has the potential for future lithium and REE capacity, developing projects and the necessary surrounding infrastructure will take many years and significant investment.
Less has been said about Ukraine's other critical materials.
Ukraine is an important iron and steel producer and produces key silicon and manganese ferroalloys. It also has substantial reserves, as well as existing capacity, for materials including titanium, zirconium, graphite, aluminium and gallium.
By utilising Project Blue's Proxima supply chain analytics platform, our experts are able to more comprehensively map Ukraine's mining and refining assets as well as deposits which have potential for future development.
Project Blue's Head of Consulting Jessica Fung spoke this week to Sky News in some detail about the potential Ukraine-US deal - you can watch the video here:
