Australian developer, Tivan, expands upstream fluorite portfolio

Tivan has acquired the Sandover Fluorite Exploration Project located in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Tivan has acquired a second fluorite project in Australia, located about 8 km east of its Sandover lead-silver project. This comes after the company signed a binding term sheet for this acquisition in November 2024 for a total of US$1.075M.

As part of its exploration efforts, Tivan conducted initial mapping and surface sampling at the Sandover fluorite project.  Preliminary results released in January 2025 from surface sampling indicated significant fluorite mineralisation, with grades reaching as high as 94% CaF2.

Notably, these results also showed low concentrations of arsenic, phosphorus, and calcite in the mineralisation, which is advantageous for producing acid-grade fluorspar (also known as acidspar). In March 2025, Tivan announced the results of its completed flotation optimisation test work. The results showed that an  acidspar product of CaF2 97% can be achieved, with grades reaching as high as 98.8%. These findings also support the engineering design of the process plant and the additional test work being conducted as part of the ongoing Feasibility Study.

The company plans to commence drilling and conduct a scoping study in Q4 2025 to assess the size and grade of the fluorspar deposit for potential mining operations. Additionally, the company is preparing two applications for the Northern Territory Government’s Geophysics and Drilling Collaboration Program. One application seeks co-funding for diamond drilling to explore new concepts near the known deposit, while the other aims to advance critical minerals through early-stage metallurgical testing and ore characterisation to assess potential recoverability.
