China fluorspar updates: new mines and expansions

Tongshen commences mining, while Yudu Huashou begins construction of new fluorspar mine.

Tongzheng Mining has officially launched its first mining operation at the Tsagaan Delger Fluorspar Mine in the Middle Gobi Province of Mongolia. The mine is located in the core fluorspar mineralisation zone of Gol Saihan Sum, with the first phase of mining being done using open-pit mining methods. The mine is expected to have an annual production capacity of 200kt, with plans to transition the mine to underground mining at a later stage.

Meanwhile, Yudu Huashuo Mining has invested ¥530M (US$74M) into the construction of the Ao‘nao Fluorite Mine Project in Yudu County, Jiangxi Province. The mine has an estimated resource reserve of 5.81Mt, with production capacity scheduled to be 186ktpy of acidspar once operational.

The mine project is divided into two phases. Phase I will have a service life of seven years, which includes a two-year infrastructure development period followed by a five-year production ramp-up period. Phase II will have a service life of 10.9 years, consisting of a nine-year production ramp-up period and a two-year reduced production period. Recently, the project received approval from the Ganzhou Administrative Approval Bureau, for its environmental impact assessment document.

In related news, the Ecology and Environment Department of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has issued a public notice accepting the environmental impact assessment document submitted by Inner Mongolia Ziangzhen Mining Group for the technical transformation project at its fluorite ore dressing plant in Ulanqab City.

The capacity of the plant will be doubled from 400t/d to 800t/d, with an anticipated operational schedule of 312 days per year, resulting in an annual production capacity of 249.6ktpy. Additionally, the quality of the concentrate powder is expected to improve from 95% to 96.5% following the completion of the technical upgrades.
