ESS Analyst

We are seeking an experienced Senior Analyst to join Project Blue, a leading market intelligence firm focused on commodity research.

Our focus is on understanding the complexities of rapidly evolving supply chains and translating this knowledge into accurate data, unbiased analysis, and expert insight to support industry and government decision-makers.

This role will play a key part in strengthening our analytical capabilities and advancing our downstream energy storage system (ESS) coverage. You will contribute to the development of high-quality data, rigorous analysis, and insightful research that supports clients across global energy transition markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and management of Project Blue’s ESS capability, delivering data and insight on the market drivers and key trends that are shaping the industry.
  • Primary focus include but not limited to the lithium-ion battery ESS sector, Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs), to assess the market landscape in its entirety.
  • Refine our existing forecast tools, responding quickly to shifting market and client demands, and continuously elevating the value we offer. 
  • Update relevant data channels regularly to ensure the effective communication of Project Blue narratives on the ESS sector.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and a globally distributed team, engage directly with clients across industries – from governments and investors to technology firms and automotive OEMs.
  • Steer the strategic direction of our downstream ESS offering, help define commercial opportunities and shaping future product development.
  • Study upstream and downstream enterprises in the energy storage industry chain (e.g., raw material suppliers, cell manufacturers, system integrators, end users), analyzing supply chain structures, cost compositions, and competitive dynamics.
  • Support consulting projects about the ESS industry and offer professional advice if needed.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, and marketing teams to provide market information and data analysis support, driving product innovation and market promotion.
  • Maintain communication with industry associations and other contacts in the supply chain to obtain the latest industry information and enhance corporate influence.
  • Participate in internal training and knowledge-sharing activities to improve team professionalism.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in power engineering, energy economics, electrical engineering, materials science, or relevant fields.
  • Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, CFA) are preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the energy storage or new energy industry, familiar with energy storage technology, markets, and policy regulations.
  • Experience in market analysis, data modeling, and project management is required; experience in consulting firms or research institutions is preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Python or Tablau) and data visualization capabilities.
  • Familiar with energy storage system technologies, applications, cost structures, and knowledge of industry standards.
  • Knowledge on virtual power plants (VPP) and integrated Source-Grid-Load-Storage is beneficial.
  • Good English reading and writing skills to interpret international industry reports and literature.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external executives.
  • Diligent, responsible, and adaptable to rapid industry changes with strong learning and stress-management capabilities.
